The main goal of Indian Idol is find a talented singer from ordinary people. I think that Indian Idol 3 has managed to do so. It has already found some great singers from very ordinary people. They come from all corners of India. Many people in Eastern India are now interested about Prashant Tamang. He is from Tungsung village in Darjeeling and you know that Darjeeling is a beautiful place with high mountains. I think that Prashant Tamang is a speaker of Nepalese language and that is why the people of Nepalese origin in India and Nepal consider him their own Idol. Although he works as a Sepoy with Kolkata police, his main fan base is in Darjeeling and neighboring areas.
Prashant Tamang is now very popular among all the people of Nepalese origin. In, Darjeeling, a campaign is going on to vote for him and make him the winner of Indian Idol 3.
The final round of Indian Idol will start from next week with 13 contestants fighting to become Indian Idol 3. You may argue about who may become Indian Idol 3 but there is no debate about who the most famous contestant in Indian Idol 2 is. He is none other than Prashant Tamang.
Prashant Tamang has been able to ignite passion of all the Gorkhas (Gurkhas) in India and Nepal. Of course, the Nepalese people cannot vote for him as only Indian citizens can vote in Indian Idol. It does not matter to them. They surely can be happy and pray for Prashant Tamang. They are doing it with all their heart.
In India, people of two places are supporting Prashant Tamang- Darjeeling and Sikkim.
Public support for Prashant Tamang, an Indian Idol contestant, has transcended the Rangpo river, the great physical divide between Sikkim and Darjeeling and is increasing with each passing day since the knock-out round of the contest began on May 4.
Prashant, who hails from Tungsung village in Darjeeling is presently in a music band of the Kolkata Police. Schools, clubs and even the police were asking people to support Prashant now named as ‘Pahar ka Gaurav’ (Pride of the Hills).
This title bestowed upon Prashant by the masses somewhat sums up the emotions of the people of both regions.
”We request all to vote for Prashant, who is the pride of the hills. Supporting a talent like him promotes emotional integration between the people of Sikkim and Darjeeling,” said Chetan Sapkota, a social worker in Singtam.
Sikkim Cabinet Minister G M Gurung and S B Subedi planted tree saplings today at Singtam as a novel way to pledge the Sikkimese people’s support to Prashant.
Darjeeling and Sikkim are among the least developed places in India. So, the people have now something to show off in the national sector. This is what the goal of Indian Idol is in the first place- to find out talents from every corner of India. Until now, I was a fan of Dipali Kishore and Puaj. Now, I have another favorite- Prashant Tamang.
